Angelo Web Design celebrates 5 years in business!

Angelo Web Design has now turned 5 years old! It’s a proud milestone for me, I’ve managed to turn my childhood hobby into a successful business. Revenue has more than doubled over the past year, and the business is going from strength to strength.

I’ve decided to mark the occasion by writing this article, looking back on my journey over the past 5 years.

Where it began

I started my business towards the end of the Covid pandemic, and began trading in April 2021. It was still an uncertain time for everybody, with government restrictions looming over the country. Luckily the web design industry was one of those least affected by the pandemic, because we can work remotely without any issues. Many businesses got a new website built during the pandemic, as they couldn’t rely on brick and mortar sales due to restrictions.

Strong foundations

To start with, I did a lot of white label work for other agencies. Many marketing companies don’t have a web developer in-house, but still sell websites to clients by outsourcing the work. This provided me with a consistent stream of work, but the ultimate goal was to get my own client base – because the margins are lower with white label work.

In addition, I got a lot of work through the Fiverr platform which was experiencing rapid growth at the time. That gave me the chance to build websites for clients all around the world, including the USA and Australia. Fiverr was really valuable for me as a new business, although I have recently left the platform – something I’ll touch upon later in the article.

Further growth

There was a bit of a rocky end to 2021, but I went into 2022 with a renewed vision. I was working with more of my own clients directly, becoming less reliant on white label and Fiverr. One of my favourite websites I built that year was Ultimate Blend, a bespoke Shopify website for a client who sells nutritional supplements. The website is still going strong to this day.

Business remained at a consistent level until 2025, I worked with hundreds of clients across a wide range of industries. This further developed my skillset, and I built specialist knowledge in new areas.

Expansion

Throughout 2025 I started working with several clients in the energy installation industry. These are companies who install systems like boilers, heat pumps and solar panels. I’d worked with a few installers previously, and I have a particular interest in that industry. My favourite website I built last year was Future Heat, a complex website with instant quote tools. Customers can get a price in minutes for services like solar panel installation, pay their deposit, and book a survey. The website has already helped bring in millions in revenue for them, and it’s had over 50 thousand visits!

Over the past 12 months my sales have more than doubled compared to previous periods – which is fantastic growth. This is due to a combination of factors. I’ve become a trusted name with installers who are looking for a website, and continue to work with more of them. I also have some brilliant clients in the healthcare sector.

A renewed vision

I’m now focused on building more complex web applications, including custom web portals and bespoke software for clients. These applications help my clients automate their processes, and provide massive value to their businesses. I’m also building things like instant quote tools and booking systems, that can streamline the entire sales process for a business.

I still build lots of WordPress websites for clients too, and provide ongoing support through SEO and Website Maintenance. I recently left the Fiverr platform due to their high fees, and the revision system which unfortunately some buyers exploit. I much prefer working with clients directly, which leads to better communications and results.

Conclusion

The web development industry continues to boom, despite all of the noise around AI. It’s brought in more work for me, and I enjoy fixing some of the absolute slop it generates. If you want to look like a serious business, I’d avoid “AI website builders” at all costs.

I’m really excited to see what lies ahead over the next couple of years, and I’ll be keeping the momentum going! Thank you to all the clients who have worked with me and supported me over these past 5 years. I hope your businesses continue to thrive, with the help of my website services of course 😄
